Welcome Circle/Large Group Time (9:00 to 9:20) Read: Stone Soup by Marcia Brown and Group Discussion: Family Lunch on Friday (families contribute ingredients to make Stone Soup and invited to join the class for lunch).

Learning Centers Inside/Outside (approx. 9:30 to 11:30 and 3:00 to 5:30)

Morning Snack/Nutrition Activity
Children make applesauce with spices: nutmeg and cinnamon to taste.

Art Center
Children make a personal invitation to the Stone Soup Family Lunch for his/her family
Reason: Fine Motor Development, Creative Expression and Social/Emotional Development

Nature Walk
Children collect leaves, twigs, pine cones, etc.
Reason: Physical Development, Social/Emotional Development

Tuesday

Read: Little Red Hen, emphasize concepts of cooperation and sharing.

Learning Centers Inside/Outside (9:30 to 11:30 and 3:00 to 5:30)

Morning Snack/Nutrition Activity
Children make Apple Muffins (mix ingredients and bake)

Art Center: Each child has a fabric patch to decorate for the Harvest Quilt (to be completed over a two week period of time)
Reason: Fine Motor Development, Creative Expression, Social/Emotional Development (cooperation on a group project)

Nature Walk Collection Activity: Children sort through the materials found from the previous day’s walk and make a nature chart
Reason: Cognitive Development, Math and Science (sorting, classifying, counting)

Wednesday

Read: The Real Story of Stone Soup by Ying Chang Compestine (a Chinese version of the traditional story) and discuss (compare and contrast)
