Part Day Preschool (Sample Daily Routine)

[En Español]

Our part-day preschool programs consist of either a 3-hour morning session or a 3-hour afternoon session. The curriculum in our part-day programs is primarily focused on kindergarten readiness with small and large group activities focusing on literacy, writing, pre-math, pre-science and social interaction.  Breakfast is served in the morning session and lunch is served in the afternoon session.

Center Opening: Children and families are welcomed; parents sign their child in and are informed of any special events for the session. Parents help children to settle in (put belongings away in child’s cubby, communicate any special needs to the teachers).

Free Choice Activities: Children have free choice of learning centers such as the dramatic play area, block area, writing center, reading area, art area and table toys (games, manipulatives, play dough, etc.).

Mealtimes: Children in the AM session receive breakfast and children in the PM session are served lunch. Children and teachers eat family style and children learn about food and mealtime. Children brush their teeth after mealtime.

Indoor/Outdoor Learning Opportunities: After mealtime, children participate in small group activities or projects (based on knowledge of children’s interests and developmental needs).

Large Group Time: Children and teachers/adults gather for a social group experience. Songs, story time, group games and/or group discussions promote a sense of community while building language and literacy skills.

Throughout the day, teachers prepare children for transitions between activities and routines. Children are encouraged to help care for their classroom environment returning toys to their places and assisting the teachers with clean up between activities.

End of the Session: Teachers prepare children for going home. Parents arrive, are informed of their child’s day and sign their child out before leaving.
