Tour Checklist

[En Español]

Kidango understands that selecting a center for your family can be challenging and sometimes overwhelming.  We highly encourage parents to thoroughly research child care options and tour any facility you are seriously considering.  It may seem difficult to compare centers and to know what questions to ask, and so we have provided a checklist as a tool in the process of finding the right center for you.

The checklist focuses on three primary areas: Place & Environment, Program & Curriculum, and People.  Each area has a series of questions which help you compare centers and know what to ask when you tour. Below is a brief outline of what to look for as you tour facilities:

Place & Environment

  • The environment feels welcoming and age appropriate
  • The center is licensed and in compliance with regulations
  • Classroom materials are labeled in languages the children speak
  • Furniture is child sized and in good condition
  • Dedicated outdoor space available for daily play
  • Outdoor play equipment is safe and in good condition
  • Clean bathrooms with child-sized amenities

Program & Curriculum

  • Lesson plans and daily routines are available for parent review
  • Healthy meals and snacks are provided, along with nutrition education
  • Parents have regular, on-going opportunities to be involved
  • Children's work is proudly displayed around the center
  • Children have access to computer literacy tools

People

  • Staff who are patient and engaged with the children
  • All staff have the appropriate, required credentials & safety training
  • The ratio of teaching staff to children meets or exceeds requirements
  • Plans exist for open communication between parents and teachers
  • Staff make you and your child feel comfortable and welcome
